Because I was dealing with pictures for a couple of years (now is just a hobby), I was wondered how can I know the time or the aperture I have been used for taking them, what program I used, if the camera did flash and all this kind of information very interested for any photographer.

I was amazed to find online tools, like this Online Exit Reader, which is giving you a lot of precious information about camera settings, reflected in jpg files and tons of software. An EXIFER (software which is reading the pictures properties) is getting all the information included in the Exif image format which is supported by almost all the latest digital cameras. The high-end DSLR cameras is offering even more detailed info like: distance to the subject or GEO location (thanks of an internal GPS locator).

Here I creted a top ten of exif software I found. A part of them is for free ;)

1. Exif Reader – freeware, High-performance ExifReader technology

2. Opanda IExif – is a professional Exif viewer in Windows / IE / Firefox

3. Simple EXIF Viewer for Mac OS X – very accurate, it’s displaying a bunch of EXIF information

4. EXIFutils – The EXIFutils are a set of command line utilities that extract, add, remove, copy, and replace EXIF and IPTC data from JPEG, TIFF, and other image file formats including proprietary Raw formats.

5. ViewEXIF – It’s a IE plugin before but it is a Firefox Extension now, too.

6. EXIF Image Viewer - EXIF viewer also displays image histogram. It also features copying/moving and deleting of selected photos. Single photograph can be displayed in separate window or in a full screen mode.

7. Exif-O-Matic – a small Java application for Windows environment, a perfect tool for extract EXIF information from a picture.

8. ExifTool – tool comming in different versions, using Perl’s library and working in stand-alone mode as a Windows application, reads and writes maker notes of many digital cameras. Powerful, fast, flexible and customizable

9. EXIFRead – a small freeware utility that extracts image information from EXIF/JPG files.

10. PhotoView – Provides EXIF information based on MiTeC EXIF Reader.

A long time ago, when I had only a small hard disk drive with 140MB (MB not GB!), the duplicates files wasn’t a real concern for a home user. I knew at that time all a had on my computer, almost every piece of file or directory. But with the increase in HDD capacity, duplicates have started to become a problem. How can I find and delete duplicate files that are on my PC?

A good solution to detect and delete the duplicate files from a pc is to install a free and small software, named Easycleaner. I am using it for a while, successfully. The most powerful function you can get using Easycleaner is cleaning the registry. Other things you can do with: delete unnecessarily files and internet cookie files, manage programs starting at startup, add/remove programs (clean install and uninstall!), clear invalid shortcuts and history. Also, Easycleaner give you interesting informations about disk usage. Personally I used it mostly to check for duplicates files.

To get it, go to http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm and then download files/EClea2_0.zip
You don’t need to install anything, just double-click on exe file and you have open the program. Go to Options / Duplicate files and be sure you have checked, in require section, all four boxes.

My advice:
Be aware to use this software because if you go wrong is possible to lose important files. Be careful which files are you deleting!
