Just bought a Cannon scanner as I am addicted of scanning of my old pictures to have them on my hard drive and being looking for a good scanner I was thinking that a couple of tips will make your life easier. Here a few thoughts.

It seems to be an easy decision to buy a scanner but due to the number of different types and brands it can be difficult to figure out which type of scanner is going to work best for you, what brands you should trust, and which ones you shouldn’t, and even finding a scanner that has a price in your affordability range.

A flatbed scanner is a great way to go, as these types of scanners are usually smaller and take up less space. An a3 flatbed scanner will scan a sheet of paper that is 297 x 420 millimeters in size—this is usually the paper size that is used for bi-fold brochures as well as other presentation and advertising documents.

As technology has advanced, high-resolution flatbed scanners have grown to incorporate photo scanners as well. This is great, because it means that you no longer have to buy two machines to accomplish one job.

A Canon flatbed scanner is a great buy from a trusted brand. They offer an easy-to-use website that will allow you to compare different levels of scanners with different prices.

It’s important to do as much research as possible before purchasing your flatbed scanner. Make sure to check out lots of different brand names, as well as any wholesale website that may be offering a deal on the a3 scanner you’re looking for.

It’s also important to make sure that you purchase a warranty with your scanner, just in case something happens that you didn’t see coming. If you buy from Craigslist just forget about warranty. Still make sure you get one at a very small price, otherwise I see no reason to go for a second-hand purchase. I usually buy new products, first of all I have warranty and second I really like the smell of new things :)

Ensure that your scanner comes with the right software to get it up and running, and if it doesn’t, be sure to purchase the right software for your brand (like, don’t buy Kodak software if you have a canon flatbed scanner!).

These was just a few thoughts I wanted to share with you. Follow these tips, and you are well on your way to a lifetime of scanning happiness ;)

If not satisfied by this list just run a search on Google for these free email to SMS gateways.

Can I cancel, disable or delete an iTunes account? Can I recover my lost iPhone apps without paying again for them? Can I have apps bought when being under multiple iTunes accounts on the same iPhone?

Here a bit of a story.
I’ve created by mistake 2 iTunes accounts and I’ve bought iPhone apps under both of these accounts. A few days ago after I’ve (finally) upgraded my iPod Touch to OS4 I’ve lost all the apps installed on iPod except those ones for each I did create a backup on my PC. Trying to install back some apps I’ve seen that some of my apps were installed while other not. This was happen because, like I said some were bought under a different account. I will explain you in the next lines how to install all your apps, even those ones purchased under a different account.

The question was if is possible to cancel / delete / disable one of those two iTunes accounts so in the future I won’t repeat the same mistake of buying apps using both my accounts. Unfortunately there is no way to delete an iTunes account nor to merge multiples in one single account. The only thing you can do to assure that you’re not purchasing apps under the wrong account is to set to none the payment method from your account page in iTunes and of course to pay attention when purchasing the apps to be logged in under the right account.

Still there is a good part, authorizing your computer to work under both accounts will make possible to have on your iPod Touch / iPhone the applications bought under different iTunes accounts. So, if you want all the applications you’ve bought to be able to install on your iPod or iPhone you will have to login into your accounts, one by one, into iTunes, and then go authorize your computer for each.

Here the detailed steps:
1. connect your iPod Touch / iPhone to your computer
2. fire up your iTunes
3. go login into your accounts one by one (click in iTunes on iTunes Store from left menu then click on your account – top – right – under the search button)
4. after each login go Store / Authorize This Computer
5. after you’ve repeating authorizing your computer for each iTunes account go sync your apps but don’t forget to select all you have in the left side. Failing to select them all will make you loose what you already have installed on your gadget.

Now you should have all the bought apps on your device, no matter under which of your iTunes account you bought them :)

And another tip before you go – if you’d lost an app when syncing you can get it back at a no cost! If you know exactly the name of it go buy it again. You should get an message that you’ve already bought that app and asking you if you want it just to download it again. Tap yes and hooray, you’d get back your lost app. Now before you go look for your lost apps to recover them, make sure you are login under the same iTunes account from the moment you purchase them. Otherwise you won’t receive any message and you will just pay again for the same app!

Stop. This article is not really, really, about me but about Front End Web Developers as a profession and the need to hire them today in the “back-end” era. What I wanted to underline in this article, short enough I hope to make you read it from A to Z but still long to have a good talk here, is that Front End Developers represents a strong asset for every web development business and can bring big bucks into the company’s pockets.

What bring me the idea of this article is that for too many times, when looking over the jobs board I see a long list of job requirements for front end jobs, more of them from back-end area, a kind of all-in-one salad (the title is “Hiring Front End Developers but they are asking for PHP, .NET, mySql and other server’s technologies skills).

Well, I don’t have nothing against an employee asking for all of this skills to fit one candidate (sadly they will ask for all of these at almost every job posting) but let’s make a little bit of separation between front end and back end, let’s put a stop to “one man orchestra” and see these things into their real light. If you are that lucky employee who has that kind of web developer doing front end and back end coding without no problem then you probably should pay 100k per year for your man. But why I have the feeling that you’re not?

OK with that, but what is really doing a front end developer. Just let me take a deep breath of “fresh” air coming from my computer’s fans… and let me start with the obvious of all – this job is strong related to the web UI (user interface). This means everything you see when you open a web page is the work of the front end web developer, all those design elements translated into web pages represents the bread and the water of the everyday front end development: the general style of the page, drop-down menus, the nice arrangement of text and images on pages, all this final design and architecture of a website is done by a front end web developer, or it should be.

On the other hand, the back end developer, simply saying, should create the functionality of a website and facilitate the connections between the UI and database so if the users will type something or will interact in any way with a web page what they do will have an effect or will be saved into a database.

If we look into detail a front end developer is keeping count of:

- transforming of PSD to HTML web pages helping on the way with CSS and JQuery
- coding emails newsletters from PSDs, PDFs or other finalized designs (usually coming from web designers or graphic designers)
- improving the user experience with Web Usability standards
- helping the SEO consultant (if any) on on-site optimization for Google Search – web pages speed, clean code, keeping count of the keywords, meta tags, headers, page titles, etc
- helping the copywriter in writing and adding of the page content
- helping the web designer and giving leads over images size, placement on page, choosing the right ones, etc
- consulting with the project manager about the project, taking the specifications and transforming them into a nice looking website
…and many more.

As I said at the beginning I’m not gonna get granular with this. What I wanted to say, if not clear enough already, is that there is too much information to be handled by a single man, a back end developer. Here is where the front end developer is coming in place and bring its contribution to the company, shortening the web development process and making the website to look good, to load fast and make a good impression anytime an user is opening a page.

If you’re a looking for a method the make sidebar height be the same all the time with the content then you are in the right place. I’ve been looking for a solution for a while and instead I’ve got, along the way, 5 possible ways to accomplish this. To be honest, I’ve used only one of these but you might like to try it all and see which one is working the best for you to get the job done.

Four of these methods are using jQuery and the last one is using CSS. Basically this situation is more about styling the page so it should be using CSS and not jQuery but since these methods exists and are used on a large scale by front end web developer let’s take a look at them. If you know even more methods drop a line here, we will love to hear what you’re saying.

The first method is based on a built-in jQuery function, height, which is referring to the height of the element which is applied on, and the css function which is adding the style we want to defined on this selected element. This being said, what we have here can be translate like this: select the class sidebar and apply on it the height from the content. Height function is taking only the number of pixels so you’ll have to add ‘px’ as measurement units.

$(".sidebar").css({'height':($(".content").height()+'px'});

The second method is pretty straight forward and is more simplified.

$(".sidebar").height($(".content").height());

The following is based on creating a JavaScript variable for which one is assigned the value of the highest column. Later on we can use this variable to define the height for any DIV we want, in our case is being used to define the sidebar height .

var highestCol = Math.max($('.sidebar').height(),$('.content').height());
$('.sidebar').height(highestCol);

The last jQuery method is pretty similar with the previous one but a little more complex based on the fact that we’re defining a function, who’s being used letter on, within our call.

$.fn.equalizeHeights = function(){
  return this.height(Math.max.apply(this, $(this).map(function(i,e){ return $(e).height() }).get() ) )
}
$('.sidebar, .content').equalizeHeights();

The last method, and which seams to be more appropriate for our situation is based on defining a background image for wrapper of the .content and .sidebar, so will give the user the impression that the sidebar has the same height as the content. Add a repeat-y on this background and you’re done. So far this CSS method is the easiest one and is not requiring any web programming knowledge.

In the last years I saw a lot of websites with problems and I was thinking that will be helpful for any of you, no matter how experienced you are, this list of most common mistakes (I still have a lot of these, too…) in building a website.

I am not pretending that this is all you can find. I am pretty sure there are other 1000 problems good to be listed here and discussed so if is something bothering you just spit it out for the sake of having a good conversation and to clarify a bit the way we have to do web developing.

Also I didn’t get into too many samples and explanations because the primarily roll of this blog post is just to present a list of situations which can bring disadvantages to your website. Still if you’re unclear about one of these points drop a comment line and I will clarify it for you.

Thanks for reading and I just hope you have a great time on kensfi.com :)

This will sound odd but I’ve found one of my pictures used by some guy on his website. It was happen a few years ago. My bad, I didn’t keep any print screens of that.

But why on Earth would someone use your picture instead of his? For the simple reason of not using personal pictures on internet. Well, I can’t tell why is not just renouncing to use any picture on it’s profile.

To find out if someone is using your picture on his profile check this website, using reverse image search. Is free to use and might return some unexpected results, so don’t be too much confident that you’re out of grid.

This is the website:
Reverse Image Search

Hint. You can go even further and look not only for pictures of you but other picture taken by you. You might find some of these used without your permission on others websites photo galleries. Tough eh?

As my job started requiring more coding from PSD to Email Newsletters I will start today talking about how to code HTML for Emails. As the title says I will refer today only to Outlook 2007 because it doesn’t show properly padding and margin, both CSS properties, in those newsletters.

For all of you who doesn’t know yet, we are using, when converting PSD to HTML, tables and inline style only. This article will help you in coding of those emails to be sent out and also will be a good help for me letter on when the things will get messy.

Case:
A list of horizontal links with spaces (margins) in between.
Those spaces show up in Gmail, Yahoo and other Email clients but not in Outlook 2007. Outlook doesn’t recognize properly the padding and margin especially for inline elements like links, spans, etc. You can try even float:left; or display:block as a friend of mine suggested, it doesn’t make any difference. There will be no spaces.

Sample:
link 1 link 2link 3

This is how is looking in Outlook:

*the right margin doesn’t show up in Outlook

Solution:

link 1

link 2

link 2

This is how is looking in Outlook after I did the changes:

It sounds odd to insert a table into another table (I hate working with tables as is not giving me any flexibility) but unfortunately is the only solution working in this case.

As you can see and as a general idea I recommend using padding and margins only for tables (in this case I used margin for
) and not for paragraphs, links, spans and other elements when converting PSD to Emails.

I will be back with other tips and tricks for coding PSD for E-mail newsletters.

This is an error message I’ve got today when I wanted to open up my Gmail account. It seams that this Firefox (it not happens in Internet Explorer) problem appear for yahoo email and other email providers also. I’ve tried to open my email account even direct from Gtalk but I’ve got the same Firefox error message.

“Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
* This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
cookies.”

As it says, there is a big chance the problem is cause because a cookie, so, everything you should do is to clear some cookies. I recommend only to delete the cookies from the page you want to open, otherwise you’ll lose login information for other websites too.

Still if you have saved the username / password for your Gmail account in Firefox you won’t be loosing the login details.

To delete these cookies in Firefox go to Tools – Options – Privacy – Show Cookies and finding the cookie for Gmail or Yahoo / other email are you using and click on Remove Cookies. Now go open again the email. It should work now.

“Install an antivirus or antispyware remover to clean your computer”

One thing is really getting me: malware! No more than a few days ago I’ve got this awful virus message right before the user login screen. I am using XP Professional on my PC and XP is becoming worst day by day as I’ve got in the last 6 months at least 2-3 infections. On my Lenovo ( :P ) laptop I have Windows 7 Professional, which seams to be the safest OS I ever used and even if is giving me a lot of nerves because of the fancy style a kinda like it.

So, what about this virus message? I’ve rebooted in Safe mode and I tried a couple of spyware remove tools I’ve found on internet but nothing to solve my problem. After an hour or so I discovered a very powerful antispyware and finally I removed the spyware. The software is SUPERAntiSpyware and I am just amazed about it’s simplicity, speed and power and last but not at least the price.

I will share with you just a few details because I don’t want to write a full review about, but since I am really excited about my discovery and still out there are a lot of threats over the internet, we must stay safe.

So, how do you choose your antivirus / antispyware?

For me the price is the first thing I’m looking. Not that I am cheap but anytime the price matter for me. There are many effective products available for free, including SUPERAntiSpyware and I’ve tried over the years the majority of them. What makes the difference between them, and is important, is to choose software with scanning and removal capabilities close as possible with the paid edition.

In this case I’ve tried first SUPERAntiSpyware’s Free Edition and it cleaned and removed this infection as advertised with no catch or fine print. I could have choose to stay with the free version as is doing a damn good job but I’ll always prefer the paid versions especially since in the Pro Edition I take advantage of features such as Scheduled Scanning, Real-Time Protection and Automatic Definition Updates.

You might think that is gonna to be expensive but it isn’t. I’ve payed for SUPERAntiSpyware 39.90 bucks (4 beers) to cover both two computers I have, FOR LIFE. This is the best thing I ever got from an antimalware solution – no annual renewal fees! Hell yeah!

SUPERAntiSpyware is working just prefect with my Norton Antivirus. I have heard that running multiple security solutions is a bad idea. Not in this case. SUPERAntiSpyware it seams that has been designed to work well with others, and its small footprint is not slowing down my computer. I am used to have opened Photoshop and Dreamweaver in the same time as I’m working on websites permanently and the CPU is constantly at 30-40% like before. Not bad :)

Another thing I like about SUPERAntiSpyware is that is working on 32bit and 64bit OS so I’ve got an antispyware for both my computers and with a life license. As I have been told by my friends they couldn’t find a real solution for 64bit. I’m not an expert though in antivirus solutions but I’ve heard that the majority of those are removing 32-bit infections only. Mine – both! Go and get a real antispyware you Billy boy! :))

I’ve been through a lot of nerves yesterday trying to arrange my iPhone apps within iTunes. I even had the latest version, iTunes 9.1.

I’ve tried everything: unplugging and replugging my iPhone, turning it OFF and ON, checking my iPhone for restrictions (none) and finally syncing it. The damn iTunes didn’t let me rearrange the apps. The screen with iPhone’s apps pages was greyed out with no chance of selecting the apps or pages.

After all, even worst, I couldn’t transfer any of my purchased apps from iPhone to computer. Tried to deauthorize / re-authorize my computer but it didn’t work out as well.

After 30-40 minutes of doing all of these and tired of looking on internet for answers I decided to restore the Norton Ghost back-up and then I was able of transferring the apps to my PC and then rearranging the apps on iPhone from within iTunes 9.0.

You might ask yourself, do I need to reinstall the computer operation system to get back to normality? If you don’t have a back-up of your system, as I had, you can try and I have the feeling that will work also, to uninstall and reinstall iTunes but try an older version. As I said I am using now iTunes 9.0 and seams just fine. Go for it.

Leave a reply here if works so others (including me) will know another solution to solve the problem besides reinstalling the OS or using the back-ups.

As a conclusion, I think this is an iTunes software bug. Another guessing is that iTunes is getting somehow corrupt after a while and is giving this error which is going everyone crazy.

I have an iPod Touch which is pretty similar with iPhone except the call features so when I say iPhone apps I will refer to iPod Touch apps as well.

Being for so much time interested in iPhone apps I’ve got already a pretty good idea of what apps deserves attention and who doesn’t. I tested a lot of iPhone apps to get a good approach to them. Of course is a matter of personal preferences but at least for the newbies this article will help to decide what to buy.

1. First type of apps which I find really useless is “To Do’s” / “Tasks” apps. Is not that I don’t find interesting the way you can schedule your daily tasks but since iPhone is already giving you the chance to add “to do’s” within it’s calendar using push notifications, I don’t see any reason to buy such an app. I’m using a very powerful combination of Google calendar and iPhone calendar and this is all anyone needs.

2. “Battery” apps – that apps showing you all kind of metrics about the battery level, time left for playing games or for browsing the web, etc. These apps have a single but big problem – you have to open the app to see these battery stats. I’m not saying that is not good at all, but I prefer the iPhone native battery level icon so I can see the battery status all the time.

3. “Web Browser” apps – those “revolutionary” apps coming everyday on Apple Store. I’ve tried two of those and believe me, is nothing really exceptional about. Maybe the “tabs” feature can be interesting but I’m still using all the time the native web browser who’s coming with the iPhone.

4. “WI-FI finder” apps – very useless. Why to buy such an app when is clear that if you don’t have WI-FI the app itself cannot detect WI-FI spots? Here I’m talking about iPod Touch and not iPhone of course. If you have an iPhone and a data plan so you can go on internet anytime you want, why you’ll need WI-FI spots anymore? One of the most useless iPhone app ever.

5. “Alarm” or fancy “clocks” apps. Why to buy those apps when iPhone has a built-in alarm app and of course has a watch like any other gadget on the planet?

6. “Weather” apps. Actually I’ve found a few very interesting in terms of design, I used them for a while but I’ll never get back to them. Is the same reason – iPhone is offering through its Weather app all you want to know about weather. Still I will go maybe for a weather app which supports push notifications when weather changes drastically.

7. “Notes” apps? No way! iPhone has already a similar app and is doing an excellent job. You can even send emails through iPhone Notes app.

8. “Music player” apps. Another useless app. Since I can play music on iPhone within its native built-in music app and I can even listen the music in background when open other app, there is no good reason for me to spend money on similar app.

9. “Email” apps. The native iPhone email application is doing a damn good job, why to buy another similar one? The email built-in app has push notifications and you can add as many email accounts you want. Apple will still have to work a little to improve it but, so far I know, is the best you can get.

10. “RSS reader” apps. This is one of the most wanted iPhone app and in the same time is giving me the biggest frustration because there is no real time RSS reader for iPhone with push notifications. I’ve tried a lot of RSS readers but with no luck. And by the way, you’ll have to pay in extra for any RSS feed you subscribe to. I’m not telling that I’ll not go for a RSS reader with a working real time notifications but since I’m trying to find one for such a long time I just gave up.

This list can be even much longer but I’ll stop because I just wanted to say that the built-in features, iPhone is coming with, are doing the most of the job. Not saying that you won’t find iPhone apps much better or interesting but you can go for the basics using without any problem only the built-in apps.

You can take it as a challenge and give me a reason to buy any of these. You better have a damn good one :P

A couple of months ago I tried without success to share some video files on my web domain. I created a new folder, I copied those avi files there but when pointing the browser to that files it gave me that 404 error, page not found.

I took me a while to understand that WordPress especially is rewriting the .htaccess so you no longer can use any other file, except the files accepted by WordPress on your web domain. This is why so many people are installing WordPress blog on a sub-domain or just in another folder and not directly into the root.

When using a CMS (Content Management System) like ModX or WordPress the problem you’re facing is that you’re no longer able to install a second application or to use some sort of files because the rewrites can cause 404 error.

I presented at that time an easy to implement solution for excluding of those desired files from .htaccess rewrite on a WordPress blog:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

Today I come with a solution for excluding an entire folder from being rewritten in WordPress. The only thing you have to do is adding the following line to the previous block of code:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(foldername|foldername/.*)$

To make it work just replace “foldername” with your own that needs to be excluded from the rewrite. Here the entire block oh code you have to implement into your .htaccess files:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(foldername|foldername/.*)$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

Hint: I am using WinSCP for accessing my ftp accounts and modify .htaccess files. It’s free and is a very good tool. And, by the way in comparison with others I tried is the only one showing me .htaccess files on the server. Tried before with Total Commander (very handy tool, too) but with no success.

This is the message you can get when using Gmail forwarding. It’s happened because there are only 20 forwarders accepted by Google email so you can’t create another email forwarder anymore. To solve the problem you have 2 solutions:
1. create more Gmail accounts
2. combine filters

Since we are not talking about creating new Gmail accounts the only good solution is to combine all of those filters used for forwarding emails to other email accounts. How to do that?

First of all, as you see already, we are talking about combining the email addresses used in “From:” and not others based on other criteria like “To:”, “Has the words:”, etc. To be honest I didn’t try to use these ones and I don’t know if is working or not. The only one tested is combining the emails from “From:” field.

Method:
1. fire up your Gmail account
2. go to Setting (top-right), Filters.
3. look for filters that are forwarding emails to a specific email account (let’s just assume you’re using different email account, one for personal use and other one for business purpose).
4. after you have identified already the filters used to forward the received emails to another account start with combining all of those so instead using of, let’s say 10 forwarders, you’ll remain with only one.
5. combining multiple forwarders. E.g.:
From: (jamessmith@gmail.com) OR (jessica.clein@hotmail.com) OR (john_smith@yahoo.com)

Doing this you will save your forwarders so you will can use more email addresses your emails to be forwarded to.

A good and practical example of using a Gmail forwarder is forwarding emails to phone using Email to SMS method. Is this free? Hell yeah!

Centering horizontally and align vertically a DIV on the page is one of the hottest subjects of CSS developers community. I will present today the solution I am using successfully when I want the content of a page to be perfectly centered horizontally and vertically in browser.

This method is working cross browsers and I am using valid CSS. You can use this method all the time you need to center the content of a page.

Centered Content

<!--[if lte IE 8]>

#outer{display:block;}

This DIV will appear in the center of the page in any browser! Enlarge the browser window and then make it smaller to see how this box is staying centrally on the page. I recommend you to use this method anytime you want centering a DIV box on a page. I am using valid XHTML and CSS 2.1. Thanks for visiting my blog. Hope you find the answers you need!

Wondering how is possible centering horizontally a DIV which has no width? Sure thing I couldn’t find any working method out there on the web today but I’ve got an idea in my mind and guess what? It’s working!

I’d been working today on a page where the menu wasn’t centered as I wanted to be and we all know how ugly is to add width on a navigation div (to make it centered) since the menu can change anytime and you can get some nasty stuff on the page if is fixed width.

The reason you can’t make a DIV to appear centered on a page is because a div by default has display:block; If you apply float:left; the DIV is becoming inline but obvious it can’t be central since you make it float left, isn’t? Don’t even think about making this DIV inline (display:inline;) as is not making any difference in our case.

The solution is pretty simple (holly cow, it took me an hour to figure it out!). All you have to do is to wrap that div (in the first case an unordered list) inside a span, span being an inline element. We will use ul and li also.

Now you’ll say, block-elements (DIVs, ul) are not allowed inside inline-elements (SPAN is an inline element) which is perfectly true. Well, is somehow against the rules, Eric Meyer will hate you, but when you’ll see the work done you will wanna dance!

Even more, the second example is based on multiple nested spans into DIVs, ugly somehow but as I said is doing the job so let’s forget for now about valid markup (Errors found while checking this document as XHTML 1.0 Transitional!).

HTML:

About Us

Copyright

Partners

Products

CSS:

ul {text-align: center;}
li {display:inline; padding:0 10px 0 0}

Working in any browser!

You would think that margin:0 auto; would do the job in centering your div like always but as you see it isn’t (you can give it a try but it won’t!). Instead text-align:center; (sounds odd I know) is doing the trick.

To align let’s say, just a title you will do like this. Sure thing you can align center any HTML element you want, with specifying the width of the element you want centered. You won’t believe how simple is:

HTML:

Here is the centered Title!

CSS:

ul {text-align: center;}
li {display:inline; padding:0 10px 0 0}

Working in any browser!

To align a picture you follow the same method:

HTML:

CSS:

ul {text-align: center;}
li {display:inline; padding:0 10px 0 0}
span {text-align: center;}

Working in any browser!

Whaaaat? Is that all?? It couldn’t be that simple! Hell yeah, is that simple! :) From now you can align center any HTML element you want without being necessarily to specify the width of that element.

Here is the DEMO.
To test this page in any browser, here a good tool.

For a week or so, I’ve got tons of instant messages (on Yahoo Messenger) including a link to a getimage.php file or image.php files. Nothing odd till my antivirus started giving alerts of virus presence when I wanted to open those links. Actually I didn’t but some friends of mine does :P

Palevo is a computer worm which spreads through vulnerabilities in a computer. Although this malware isn’t that dangerous you better be prepared for it and stay alert to do not open any instant message which is sending you to any of these pages, getimage.php file or image.php.

If you already got it (wondering if you can open any webpage, especially if you can get to this page) you have to follow next steps to remove Palevo from your computer:

1. press CTRL+ALT+Del and hit end precess for Infocard.exe.
2. go to Search for files and folders and look for the following files and delete them:
C:\Windows\mds.sys
C:\Windows\mdt.sys
C:\Windows\winbrd.jpg
C:\Windows\infocard.exe

Now your system should be clean. Try next time do not open up all the links coming on your screen, and as you already know a picture can be in one of the following formats: .gif, .jpg, .png, .jpeg, .bmp. No way to be .php which is a webpage format and can’t be an image!

Another possible ways to get rid of this malware are (I’m not guarantying for any of these!):
1. download and run HJTInstall.exe
2. download and run MsnCleaner.exe
3. download and run ComboFix
4. download and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

How to install slimstat on any website?
Regarding monitoring your website visitors, except the well known web tool – Google Analytics, you can use as well Slimstat, an amazing tool for tracking your website users. It’s free and it’s coming in a handy way of installing.

Slimstat is easy to read/use even for someone from outside of tech world, is very light for browser, user friendly, can be installed on any kind of platform, no matter if you’re using WordPress, Joomla, Modx or other content management system or if you have just a simple , static or not, website. I love it and yet my sister can’t live one single day without taking a look on her photo blog Slimstat statistics.

The installation process is quite simple, all you have to do is to follow close all of these steps and do have access to your cPanel/ftp account. Stay close and read this guide for installing Slimstat:

Preparation phase:

Open up your website cPanel and create a new database especially for Slimstat. Save all data for later on, for the Slimstat installation. Here an easy guide to create a new database using cPanel – check the 3rd step. Now that you have already creating the database wich will be used by Slimstat let’s go to the installation guide.

   1. Extract the files from the zip archive and upload the entire slimstat directory to your server. E.g. http://www.example.com/slimstat/.

   2. Open up http://www.example.com/slimstat/ in the web browser and follow the instructions displayed on the screen to connect slimStat to its database. Make sure you’re using exactly the same data you used for creating the database!

   3. Add this line of JavaScript to your site’s HTML code, in the header section:

4. That’s it. Load http://www.example.com/slimstat/ in your web browser and start monitoring your website’s users with Slimstat statistics!

First of all this solution is addressing to everyone looking to add Share This button to a normal website NOT a WordPress blog or for blogger! Since there are yet hundreds of solutions for blogs it was very hard to find one to apply to a normal website.

The solution is coming from Share this website and it works like a charm on my new Toronto Questions and Answers community website.

All you have to do is to create an account on this website and follow the steps to get the code which you’ll have to implement into your code. The tricky part for me was implementing this code into a PHP dynamic page but after all I did it. What I really like is that this code is sending the title as well to twitter.

How is looking my code:
Header:

$themeclass->output('');

Body code (where I wanted the Share this button to appear on the page):

function q_view_buttons($q_view)
    { if (!empty($q_view['form']))
        {
        $this->output('
');
        $this->output('

    ');
    $this->output('
');
        }
}

Before Share this I’d tried Tweet meme but with no success. Since Share this is the only one which was entirely working I thought will help other like me trying to implement Tweet me or Share on Facebook sharing buttons on their non-blog websites.

Till now I’ve run WinX DVD Ripper Platinum for a couple of times , especially ripping for my iPhone, AVI, MPG and WMV; a couple of different DVD’s and the results is amazing – great quality and a fast enough copying process. The entire process was smooth and even my old CPU was doing great.

There is a version for Mac also, both WinX DVD Ripper Platinum and WinX DVD Ripper for Mac are an easy-to-use solution to rip protected DVD to general video formats and portable devices.
