Free Email to SMS using Yahoo Canada
Just sent an email from an another address of mine to my principal email address and I received right away a text message on my phone containing the email I just sent. How is possible? I am on Koodo and I was curious if I can receive emails as SMS on my phone. And here we are, I just test it and is working.
Tried before to do the same thing using my Gmail account but for whatsoever reason it didn’t work, I didn’t receive any SMS from my email.
So, how is this working? First of all you have to make sure your phone provider is not charging you for receiving SMS. Koodo is offering unlimited at free cost SMS to receive and my plan has a limit of 50 SMS to be sent monthly, which anyway I never use.
To receive emails as SMS alerts on your cellphone you will have to follow the next two steps:
1. create or log in into your Yahoo.ca account (as I said I had tried using Gmail but with no success). Yahoo.ca has POP3 and forwarding so you can use it to accomplish this thing.
2. create a forward for your emails to:
your10digitsnumber@msg.koodomobile.com
E.g.: 6479994444@msg.koodomobile.com
From now all your emails will be forwarded to your cell phone as SMS. Yahoo kinda sucks, again, in terms of site speed but at least you can get the job done. After setting this up, get ready for reading your emails on your phone.
Yahoo unfortunately doesn’t accept filters like Gmail and this really sucks because you don’t have any chance to filter the emails you receive and there is a great change you’ll receive a lot of bull-crap along with your useful emails, directly on your phone.
Other e-mail to text services providers:
[10digitnumber]@txt.bell.ca
[10digitnumber]@pcs.rogers.com
[10digitnumber]@fido.ca
[10digitnumber]@msg.telus.com
[10digitnumber]@vmobile.ca (Virgin Mobile)
[10digitnumber]@mobiletxt.ca (PC Mobile)
[10digitnumber]@msg.koodomobile.com
[10digitnumber]@sms.sasktel.com
In order to receive e-mail to text messages, other wireless providers like Rogers will charge you a monthly fee. Good thing Koodo is offering this at no charge.
Updates.Gmail is just working just fine. I ran a few tests and everything is fine. I even sent a very big piece of email text and I receive it in only one SMS, very long actually. Nice :)
