Good bye Rogers… Welcome Netflix, Hulu and Direct TV

I’ve been with Rogers TV and Internet for 4 years now and yet today is the last day with Rogers. Why did I choose to cancel Rogers? The reason is obvious: the continuous ripoff I felt for 4 years – extreme prices and low quality of services. When I say law quality I’m mostly referring to the internet limit for downloads, which is definitely ridiculous especially in the year of 2011 when we have almost everything coming via internet. For the professionals in networking the ping is also inconsistent, too many drops… so plenty of reasons.

From the classic email to listening Pandora Radio (which is awesome btw!), watching movies online through Netflix (a streamed HD movie is going 2GB and up!), Hulu or the newly Direct TV (see the DIRECT TV packages and prices), everything is coming through the same cable – the internet gateway. So, the question remain, how is possible to get limited download in the year of 2011?

You may find this article a bit bitter while looking for the usual gags I make but there is no fun this time. Who am I looking, which Internet provider I’m gonna go with? I’ve been searching and comparing all of them here in Toronto and so far, probably the best of them is Acanac. I’m not saying that I know Acanac but their offer sounds promising and honest – 15Mbit/sec and unlimited bandwidth is something to consider. Ah btw, the price is good too, 40 bucks a month :)

I didn’t got the chance yet to set up my new HDTV OTA (Over the Air TV) Athena but I will surely make some time tomorrow after work for it and I’ll let you know guys how this new setup is working. Is likely I’ll get 6-7 HD channels over the air for free so everything should be good :)
