How to disable the annoying “This web site does not supply identity information” pop-up
Have you ever wonder if it’s possible to turn off the “this website does not supply identity information” notification while dragging pages to the bookmark bar/folder into Firefox internet browser? The answer is YES. It’s possible!
Following my method you will disable all toolbar tips, including this message.
For this open Firefox and follow the next steps:
1. Type “about:config” in the address bar and hit Enter.
2. Locate and double-click on browser.chrome.toolbar_tips
You’ll see that on Double-click you set it to false.

This will disable that annoying Firefox message: “This web site does not supply identity information” pop-up when you try to drag a url into a bookmarked folder.
Where is my beer?!? :))

Man, you saved my life!!! That popup was so annoying!
thanks,
G
it was ridiculous, obscuring my vision from the bookmarks bar
glad it helps.
It has always really annoyed me. Not any more!
Thanks
It helps, thanks. But it also disables tips elsewhere which might not be that good. It’s unfortunate that this tooltip just obscures the bookmark toolbar, could have been shown above or to the right
Thank you!
this is the first tip that actually worked for me on the internet in
weeks. thanks for ending the slump, man that thing pissed me
off!!! YOU ROCK
It came right back for me. Nothing seems to be working right no matter what I do.
Ok, this sounds weird. You know what made everything right again? I changed to a different mouse! I had disabled the tip thing and it didn’t work, but changing the mouse did. Who knows why or if it will work for anyone else. But it might. Good luck.
You are the best!! Thanks it works!

If you weren’t so ugly, I would kiss you! Seriously though, A Big Thanks, amigo, for helping me get rid of that cursed banner bubble “This website does not supply. . .” which appears when dragging URLs to the bookmark bar. Well, I assume it will be gone after I restart either Firefox or the PC (for the nonce it is still there, lurking).
On a related and larger subject: *I Do Not Want To Be Helped* by well meaning but real-world clueless architects of Google, Firefox, and other online resources and apps which are accessed by us consumers because of their original streamlined slick interface. (Google News, for example, now pokes an in-your-face bubble when the cursor floats over a drop-down *more articles* button. Maddening.)
I suspect that these clogging *helps*, and other recent clutter might be driven by the inevitable second wave Marketing guys. The internal, original Power shifts from Engineering to Sales within a company, and voila! things stop working as well, the bare bones mean machine gets fat, and loyal fans get restless. The classic and oh-so-tragic example of this in recent memory is, of course, the American car industry. Note that the innovation and flow introduction of new technologies are similar in the two industries insofar as consumer interface.
As to the beer? How about a margarita? Email me with in the subject line, and we’ll figure something out, wife and kids included. ___ Dave
how to change icon “this website does not supply identity information”

Thanks for the tip but it doesn’t solve the problem. When I click on the “more details”, I get more of the same about “… this website does not supply ownership information”, and I can;t get to any websites at all. Same error msg for any website I try to go to. BUT, my e-mail works just fine.
Thanks a lot….
