How to protect your privacy against WHOIS

You will be telling me that I have a dirty mind after you’ll be reading this article. But let’s say that I’ve just found a different approach when is coming to the sensible part named money. In fact this little dirty trick will save some money from your pocket, yearly.

Instead of paying for protecting your privacy through your domain registrar tool, you will have only to change your register data and anyone looking to your domain details, using online tools like WHOIS, will see your fake data and not the real name, address, phone number or email address you have been used actually to buy/register your domain(s) name.

To do that, go to your registrar (mine is GoDaddy) look for your domain(s) details and change the personal data from Registrant, Administrative, Technical and Billing. Curious thing, after I changed all those personal information I had been able to receive notifications on my real name and on my real email account, so it’s tested – it’s working, go for it :)

On GoDaddy you will have to pay $8.99 every year to protect you privacy. If you do like me, faking the registration data, you will save this money. Is not a big deal after all, nine bucks per year but yet, out there are more useful ways to spent this money :) And yes, http://whois.domaintools.com is a great online tool, I agree with that. Everyone wants to see who’s keeping a domain but and on the other hand, who wants to give others personal information?
