How to setup Gmail your default email service in Firefox

Firefox is becoming the most used internet browser. It has tones of plugins and despite the fact that isn’t a very fast browser is on top of my preferences when I’m talking about internet browsing.

Now, to have Gmail the default webmail system in Mozilla Firefox you need to follow this steps:

# Select Tools | Options… or Firefox | Preferences… (Mac) from the menu in Mozilla Firefox.
# Go to the Applications tab.
# Click on mailto and select on the right Use Gmail.

If Gmail is not on the list you need to paste the following in Firefox address line:

javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler(“mailto”,”https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s”,”Gmail”)

or

javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler(“mailto”,”http://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s”,”Gmail”)

# press Enter.

# click Add Application under Add Gmail (mail.google.com) to use it for mailto.
